FAQ
FAQ ~ Glow Art
What is glow art?
Glow in the dark artworks look like regular, colourful paintings during the day, but in darkness, they reveal a glowing element creating a magical nighttime transformation.
How does glow in the dark art work?
It's not really magic but it's close.
Glow in the dark art uses a special type of paint or pigment that absorbs light and re-emits it in the dark. This is known as phosphorescence, allows the artwork to glow softly for hours after being exposed to light.
What kind of light works best to charge it?
UV light (like sunlight or a blacklight) charges it fastest, but regular bright indoor lighting also works. Direct light is best, try to avoid hanging the art in a dark or shady spot.
How long does the glow last?
My glow art lasts all night and doesn't lose the ability to recharge itself every morning.
It shines brightest during the first hour, then gradually softens for the rest of the night, fading away with the dawn.
Is Glow in the Dark Art the Same as Fluorescent Neon Art?
Not really. Glow in the dark art stores light and glows on its own in the dark. Fluorescent art, (with the neon colours) only glows when under a UV or blacklight - fluorescent doesn’t glow in complete darkness after the light is switched off.
That said, the paints can be mixed - combining both can create artwork that glows in different ways under different lighting.
How do I care for my glow in the dark art?
If your painting gathers dust (as all things do), just give it a wipe with a dry or damp cloth. Each piece is sealed with a durable, permanent art varnish, so it’s well-protected.
Why has my glow art stopped glowing at night?
If your artwork looks like it has stopped glowing, it may be due to your night vision being affected. Even briefly turning on a light can make your eyes less sensitive to the dark. Give it about 20 minutes in complete darkness, and the glow should become visible again as your night vision adjusts.
FAQ ~ Shadowlux Art
Is the glow in the dark effect strong enough for large spaces?
Yes! My glow in the dark wall art is designed to produce a strong, visible glow that will illuminate your space without overpowering it. How bright it gets depends on the colours and the amount of glow paint I use. If you’re imagining something a bit different or brighter, or even with shifting effects, just get in touch and we’ll work something out.
Will the glow in the dark effect keep me awake at night?
No, glow in the dark art isn’t the kind of light that keeps you tossing and turning. My brightest paintings can cast shadows at night though, but these are commissioned so if you’re after a piece that’ll keep you wide awake, just say the word!
Most people find that glow in the dark art adds a peaceful, calming atmosphere to bedrooms.

Can you paint custom glow art with fluorescent paints so that it also glows under black light?
I can do that, yes, but a quick heads-up: fluorescent neon paints glow bright under black light, but their glow doesn’t last long. Expect the vivid colours to fade after a year or two with UV exposure. That’s just how fluorescent paints work, they have a pretty short lifespan. Also, UV protection isn’t an option here, since UV light is exactly what’s needed to “charge” the glow in the dark paint.
Is your glow in the dark art safe for kids’s rooms?
Absolutely. My glow in the dark paintings are made with non-toxic materials, safe enough for even the most curious little hands. ..and it creates a calm space where kids can relax and drift off easily. A little magic for the room, without any of the spooky stuff.
What makes your glow art unique?
The short answer is that every piece is a one of a kind artwork. I only use premium glow pigments that ensure a long lasting and vibrant glow.
The longer answer is that I've painted glow murals for over a decade. However even for someone with a lot of experience, moving into daytime painting has been an exciting new challenge, blending the two very different mediums isn't common. As way back when Stella Murals first started, these art techniques are new and truely unique.
