Most Colourful Glow in the Dark Moon Painting
This is my most colourful moon painting so far, a glowing, oversized yellow harvest moon drifting through a sky lit with red, pink, crimson, and violet. It’s 76 cm x 76 cm, big enough to feel like a window into some otherworldly twilight.
The painting glows in the dark although progress has stalled a bit on this one. I got distracted by a load of small paintings that are like tiny galaxies over silhouetted forests.
The inspiration came from the harvest moon - the full moon closest to the spring or autumn equinox, low in the sky and tinged with gold or amber. It’s one of many Moons that have beautifully romantic sounding names.
~ Wolf Moon (January) When wolves were supposedly heard howling, due to hunger and the scarcity of food in the winter months
~ Strawberry Moon (June) Time of the strawberry harvests in some parts!
~ Blue Moon (When we get two full moons in one month) - ... and this, I remember from when I was a kid, is actually when a new baby smurf is born.
~ Blood Moon (during a lunar eclipse)
~ And the Super Moon, when the moon appears bigger and brighter because it’s closer to Earth
But this one would be a bright harvest moon. In Autumn, in the past, its bright light let farmers work late into the night to harvest crops
If you're curious about this moon painting, how it turn out...or want to see the galaxy forest ones that derailed it, they’re all in my shop waiting for adoption. The Moon will be up soon.
It's here! ~ and the colours were so bright they made the glow really zing I almost couldn't take an accurate photo of it. It glows aqua though even though it pretends to glow yellow under some light.
